Where do you work?

King & Spalding LLP

What type of legal work do you do?

My practice focuses on securities class action defense and other commercial disputes.

I am ranked Band 1 by Chambers in Securities Litigation in Florida.

What was your most rewarding professional achievement?

Obtaining asylum for a Somali-born refugee, who came to the United States in his early teens after losing his parents in Somalia’s civil war. Traumatized by his experiences, my client unfortunately committed some crimes which led to a deportation order in 2009. The United States attempted to deport him in 2017; he was a passenger on the failed flight to Somalia that landed back in Miami. My client legitimately feared for his life if he were to be sent back to Somalia, given his Western appearance and mannerisms and given that he had no remaining family or connections in that country. We were able to obtain an asylum hearing right before COVID shut everything down in March 2020, and he was ultimately released from custody in April 2020.

What advice do you have for women in the legal profession?

Support other women, and always be direct in asking for what you want.  Even if the answer is no, you'll be in no worse of a position than you were before you asked!

When you have 30 minutes of free time, how do you use it?

I started horseback riding again (after riding as a child) in 2022. Now that I'm an empty-nester, and to my husband's dismay, I would (and do!) spend time at the barn whenever I can.
