Our Mission Statement
MDFAWL is a volunteer bar association dedicated to actively promoting the advancement of women in the legal profession, expanding the leadership role of its members in the community at large, and promoting women’s rights.
The organization is also committed to promoting diversity and inclusion and providing equal opportunities for participation and support to people of any gender, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, and socioeconomic background.
We are all #MDFAWL.
Lawyers and non-lawyers of all genders who support our mission are eligible for membership in MDFAWL.
We are the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, not of Women Lawyers.
Our programming includes substantive CLE programs related to our core mission, trial skills workshops, branding seminars, diversity bootcamp, corporate counsel summit, and intimate lunches with judges and other distinguished members of our legal community. MDFAWL also offers:
Publications and resources for professional development and advancement;
Representation at The Florida Bar through State FAWL;
Advocacy for women and women attorneys;
Support for nursing mothers;
Programming aimed at overcoming gender bias in the profession and obtaining gender parity;
MDFAWL speaks out about issues that affect its members and which are related to its mission. The organization has a strong voice on non-partisan issues affecting women lawyers, including representation on The Florida Bar Board of Governors, The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division Board of Governors, the National Conference of Women Bar Associations, and the National Association of Women Lawyers. The MDFAWL President will personally pen letters of support for members who seek judicial, JNC, or state-level government appointments.
