MDFAWL Submits Public Comment in Support of Commissioner Barbara Jordan’s Proposed Resolution

The Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers (MDFAWL) writes to take a stand against racial injustice and in support of Commissioner Barbara Jordan’s proposed resolution:

RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SHOCK AND CONDOLENCES AT THE DEATH OF GEORGE FLOYD; DIRECTING THE COUNTY MAYOR OR COUNTY MAYOR’S DESIGNEE TO SUBMIT A REPORT THAT DESCRIBES THE MIAMI-DADE POLICE DEPARTMENT’S PRACTICES, POLICIES, AND PROCEDURES RELATED TO ARRESTS, CUSTODY, PHYSICAL RESTRAINT, AND USE OF FORCE; AND DIRECTING THAT THE REPORT BE PLACED ON AN AGENDA OF THE FULL BOARD WITHOUT COMMITTEE REVIEW

Miami-Dade Legislative Item File No.: 201092

MDFAWL is a volunteer bar association dedicated to actively promoting the advancement of women in the legal profession and promoting women’s rights.  We are also firmly committed to helping to break the cycle of racial injustice and oppression that is deeply rooted in our society. This organization does not tolerate racism, prejudice, hatred, violence, or bigotry in any form. Commissioner Jordan’s proposed resolution is a first step toward ensuring not only transparency, but accountability. We believe that failure to take action would serve to undermine our most treasured ideal of “justice for all.”
